Codes and Conventions of a Magazine

Front Cover
-Masthead: Always at the top across the left to the right or spread across. They are usually unique and signify the genre. They are always the same post and creating the brand. They engined the audience.
-Main Image: The main image draw attention and give direct address. Usually a celebrity
-Cover lines: They reveal some of the article that feature in the magazine. They are usually framing the main image
-Bar codes: Ishu number
-Positioning Statement: Sell to the audience. Reveal the type of genre
-Price/Date: Always together
-Bold Colours: Bright, stand out. Relate to the genre. They usually suit the image and are three simply colours
-Buzz words: Graphic features, make feature stand out. for example; +; also; exclusive; only and free
-Anchorage text: Pin the meaning to the image. Normally the biggest cover line
-Strap lines: Its at the top or at the bottom.


Contents Page
-Date and Title: Uses words such as "This week" and "contents". The masthead same as the front cover
-Page Number: Different colour. Title(article) next
-Writer review: Editor letter
-Same colours: Matches the colour used on the front cover
-Font: Same font used on the front cover
-Side heading: Usually in a box, colour, bold or capital
-Advertisements: Subscription details
-Columns: Usually in three columns
-Caption under image: Explains the image with short text. Sometimes the page number will be there
-Headline: Description underneath
